Annual Report of Extension Activities – 2018-19

The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) at Jain Institute of Technology, Davangere, plays a vital role in fostering a sense of civic responsibility and democratic participation among students and the local community. Recognizing the crucial role that informed and active citizens play in a democracy, the ELC is dedicated to educating individuals about the electoral process, the importance of voting, and their rights and responsibilities as voters.

In 2018, the ELC undertook significant initiatives to promote electoral awareness and participation, addressing the need for greater involvement in the democratic process among young voters and the community at large. The two major events organized by the ELC—the Voters Awareness Jatha on 13th October 2018 and the Awareness Talk on the Importance of Voting on 27th October 2018—were designed to engage, educate, and inspire participants to take an active role in the electoral process.

The Voters Awareness Jatha aimed to reach a broad audience, taking the message of the importance of voting to the streets of Davangere through an engaging and dynamic rally. This event not only highlighted the power of each individual vote but also encouraged voter registration and participation through direct interaction with the public. By involving students in the rally and street plays, the ELC provided a platform for them to actively engage with the community and promote the values of democracy and civic duty.

The Awareness Talk on the Importance of Voting, held later in the month, focused on providing in-depth knowledge and understanding of the electoral process and the critical role that voting plays in shaping governance. The talk aimed to inspire responsible and informed voting behavior, emphasizing the impact of every vote on the future of the nation.

Through these initiatives, the ELC at Jain Institute of Technology demonstrated its commitment to building a well-informed and actively participating electorate. The positive outcomes and enthusiastic participation in these events underscored the effectiveness of the ELC's efforts in promoting electoral literacy and civic engagement. As the club continues to grow and expand its activities, it remains dedicated to empowering students and the community to contribute meaningfully to the democratic process.
